Guidelines for Adult Artists
Thank you for your interest in illustrating for New Moon: The Magazine for Girls and Their Dreams.
We invite you to submit rough cover sketches for the 2006 themes listed below. Once we receive your sample sketches, the Girls Editorial Board (GEB) will decide whether or not they want you to produce a final cover. Although the artist makes final decisions in the artwork, the end result is a collaborative effort between the artist and the GEB. Like all submissions to New Moon, covers should be pro-girl and incorporate girls in the theme.
New Moon has a four-color cover and a four-color interior. The cover is 14 inches wide when open and 9 inches high. When closed, the front cover is 7 inches wide and 9 inches high. Cover art should include a concept of how you plan to use both the front and the back of the cover. When you fold the cover in half, mark off a space 2 ½ inches from the top and 3 ½ inches from the fold. This is where the logo goes on the front cover, so important artistic elements shouldn't be placed there.
For cover templates, send us a large SASE with $.76 postage. Proposals for covers should be sent as black and white draft sketches. Several drafts may be required in the multi-step process by which the Girls Editorial Board chooses a cover. Cover art submissions from girls and women only, please. New Moon Publishing, Inc. is not responsible for unsolicited material.
When you send your sketch, please also include samples of your work so that we may see examples of how you use color and design.
If you have any questions regarding cover art, please contact us. Thank you for your interest, and we look forward to seeing your work.
