Welcome I'm Luna, the spirit of New Moon. I know every girl has something important to say! Share your thoughts about New Moon Girls or anything you feel is important. I love reading your letters. And if you have a question, I'll answer it here, too! I read every post before I share it, so your letter will appear in a day or two. Check back often! GET STARTED

Dear Luna,

Ugh! I am kind of mad!!!! I joined New Moon December 3, I think, maybe December 4. Now it is January 5, and I still have not gotten my magazine! How long is it supposed to take?

UUGGHH!!!!!!, 10

Texas

Dear UUGGHH!!!!!!,

You should be getting the Jan/Feb 2009 issue within the next week! If you're really worried about it, please email us at feedback@newmoongirls.com

Dear Luna,

I just want you to know, you are awesome!! How do you answer letters so FAST? By the way, do you have a room where people can look at your interests and leave you stickers?

Madison, 10

Idaho

Dear Madison,

Thanks! Yes I do have a room--you can visit me if you can find me! I've left a few responses to messages in different message boards!

Dear Luna,

Okay, just a quick question. When I am writing a poem, sometimes I like to space it out, so that it will be read a certain way, and in a certain rythym. I do all of this, and then when I submit it, it doesn't pay any attention to the spaces, and presses the words together. I was just wondering if you know why this happens? Is it my computer? Or just a glitch on the site? Thank you!

Posie, 10

Maryland

Dear Posie,

It might depend what internet browser you are working from and if you are working from a Mac or PC. Also, if you are copy and pasting in from a word document, this might change things also. Keep trying--good luck!

Dear Luna,

I think it would be good if you were sent an email or something when a new girl has signed up for the site, saying something like "Kayla has just joined Newmoon.com. Let's give her a warm welcome by visiting her room and sending her a sticker!" Could that work, because sometimes a girl might not create something in their Stuff, and there's no way to know that they even exist on the site without that.

Cookie, 11

New York

Dear Cookie,

This is a great idea! In fact, we're working on an upgrade to the site that features new members on the frontpage. Thanks so much for wanting to make new members feel welcome!

Dear Luna,

When will the new stickers and avatars that girls drew come out to the site?

Cookie, 11

New York

Dear Cookie,

Hi Cookie, We're in the process of updating these. Keep watching for them :-) Love, Luna

Dear Luna,

I clicked Magazine, and then Girl Boards, and then GEB. When it said 'Visit Sylvie's Room' it took me there. But when I clicked 'Visit Bria's Room' it went back to the Girl Boards page. What happened?

Cookie, 11

New York

Dear Cookie,

Many of the GEB girls are active on NewMoonGirls.com, but some of them haven't set up their rooms yet. That's most likely what happened with Bria's room, but we'll double check with her to make sure! Thanks for reporting this.

Dear Luna,

at my granpas house it is really deep because of the snow

Rachel, 10

British Columbia

Dear Luna,

What is happening? I am not getting any of the updates. It has been over a week and everything on New Moon has stayed the same. I wrote a reply to Ask a Girl four days ago and my answer has not come up. Is it my computer?

Genevieve, 11

Some Where

Dear Genevieve,

We just posted all the newest "Ask a Girl" letters; you should find what you're looking for there now!

Dear Luna,

I have been listening to a great band called Smoosh, (all girls, ages 14 and 16). They live in Seattle, and the drummer in Death Cab for Cutie helped to start their band. Not many of my friends have heard of them, and I thought some girls out there might enjoy listening to their music. Thanks!

Signe, 12

Washington

Dear Luna,

i wrote you a letter at Dear Luna and it didn't get posted .so here's my question:how can i visit other girl's rooms? THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ally, 11

Alabama

Dear Ally,

To visit another girl's room, simply click on her name or Luna Tick any time she posts a letter, comment, or creative work, or any time she leaves a sticker on your wall. Have fun!

Dear Luna,

when i went to upload a picture and look at it it had an X in it and the screen behind it was black! why does that happen? plus, i'm sure it wansn't just loading!

Kendall, 10

California

Dear Kendall,

Check to make sure the photo you'd like to upload is a jpg or a gif. Then, follow the steps listed when through "My Stuff" to upload it. If you're still having technical troubles, email feedback@newmoongirlmedia.com with the errors you're seeing when you upload photos. I can't wait to see your pictures!

Dear Luna,

What is Moongirl about?

Jenna, 10

Alabama

Dear Jenna,

Hi Jenna, Do you mean, the New Moon Girls website? If that's what you're asking... the website is about YOU. We're a safe way for girls to express themselves and talk to other girls. New Moon wants to be a place where you can share, explore, learn and have fun! Soon we'll carry all of our magazine content online plus additional features and interactive activities. I don't want to spill the beans yet... but look for the website to be continually improving. Welcome, Jenna! Love, Luna An

Dear Luna,

I have an idea. What if on your story or poetry, you could see how many views your work has had. Also I was wondering how much personal information you can talk about, I mean can you tell someone what town you're from? I just don't know how far to go. Thanks for making such an awesome website! P.S.Why haven't I gotten the January/February issue yet? I just usually would have gotten mine by now. Thank you!

Posie, 10

Maryland

Dear Posie,

Hi Posie, Page views is a great idea -- thanks for the suggestion. As far as personal info goes, it's important not to share anything that might identify you. That's for safety reasons -- we're committed to making New Moon a really safe place. So don't share things like your last name, town, name of your school. I hope that helps! Thank you very much for the compliment! And please let me know what we can do to make New Moon even better for you. I want to know what YOU want to see. We always mail the January/February issue a little bit later because so many parents give New Moon as a holiday gift and we don't want to spoil the surprise :-) Love, Luna

Dear Luna,

I really like taking quizzes in magazines or online. I think that you should add a new section either on your website, or in the mag devoted to quizzes. For example, in the mag, you can have a quiz based on the theme. It would also be a good place for girls to share quizzes they've made themselves. Thanks for listening!

Melissa, 13

Wisconsin

Dear Melissa,

Hi Melissa, Those are great ideas and I'm glad you & I are on the same wave length! The New Moon Girls website is working on adding some more quizzes. I don't know if we'll have as many in the magazine because space is more limited... but never say never! Thanks for writing. Love, Luna

Dear Luna,

I was looking back at the 25 Beautiful Girls issues that I have. I noticed the same thing in every one of them. The girls in the issues seemed as if they were seeking reassurance by listing all their qualities. It sounded fake as one girl mentioned how good she was at this, and this, oh, and how modest she was too (after all, what is modesty?). I agree that the girls are all beautiful and unique, but by listing important characteristics, they all sounded exactly the same. I think that the 25 Beautiful Girls is a little unrealistic. I emailed New Moon about this problem earlier, but I was sent a one-line reply thanking me for contacting you. I must admit that I was disappointed on not getting a response. I hope, and thank, you for reading this, now.

Melissa, 13

Wisconsin

Dear Melissa,

Hi Melissa, I appreciate you taking the time to tell me about this again. Your timing is great because we are working on that issue right now! With the 25 Beautiful Girls, we do want them to toot their own horn a little bit, because it seems like girls aren't always encouraged to talk about how great they are. But I will pay close attention to what you've said as we work on this year's issue. Love, Luna

Dear Luna,

how do you read other peoples stories?

CAROLINE, 12

Massachusetts

Dear CAROLINE,

Hi Caroline. Do you mean the content that girls post to the website? If that's what you mean, the adult editors and I have special access to the site that allows us to read, edit, and approve or reject content. The only time we reject content is if it isn't suitable for girls 8-12. Sometimes we have to edit out personal identification. Love, Luna

Dear Luna,

I am feeling very left out at school because everyone in my class has a cell phone and my parents will not give me one until i am 13. i know it is probably better to wait until i am 13 but it is not a nice feeling when everyone has something and you are the only one who doesnt have one! What should i do to make myself feel better?

Priya, 10

London

Dear Priya,

Hi Priya, It can really be hard to feel different! I am sure you are frustrated about the phone situation. One thing to keep in mind is that your parents are trying to protect you. That means that they are doing their best. They would probably admit that they make mistakes at time. If you have a good reason for having a cell phone -- maybe for safety, or so you can keep in touch with them -- try to make your case in a respectful way. You could ask to have one on a trial basis, and let them set the rules about using it. I hope this helps! Love, Luna

Dear Luna,

I think New Moon Girls But do you every up grade it?

Alice, 8

Minnesota

Dear Alice,

Hello Alice, We update the site several times every week -- the best place for new content is the feature box on the left near the top. It has lots of changing content! And soon, we'll have more ways for girls to get involved online! I can't say too much yet but it will be coming over the next few months! Love, Luna

Dear Luna,

I have been talking on the phone wit this guy a lot and i know him beacuse my friend introduced us. my mom called my friends mom to see if she knew if this guy was nice and if it was ok for me to be talking to him. she said yes, and she told her daughter, my friend, about the conversation and she later told me. im a little annoyed that my mom would do that. cant she trust me to talk with only nice people? Did she really have to call my friends mom? Plus, this guy is really nice and I certainly trust him. Do u think I should confront my mom, because my friend told me not to cuz she wasnt supposed to tell me. What should i do?

Karly, 12

Maryland

Dear Karly,

Hi Karly, I understand how you feel, but I think your mom was trying to protect you and make sure you are safe. Since your friend is the one who introduced you, your mom was just trying to check it out through your friend's mom. Think of it this way -- your mom wanted another opinion, just like sometimes you might ask a friend for an opinion about something that happens to you! You might get a little further with your mom if you try to talk to her calmly about it. If you try to see things her way, she might be able to see things your way too! Love, Luna

Dear Luna,

Dear Luna, How do we make and send in our own sticker?

Delaney, 12

Pennsylvania

Dear Delaney,

This article will show you how to create your own stickers or avatars: http://www.newmoon.com/content/?id=1889&type=1. We can't wait to see what you create!

Dear Luna,

I can't seem to figur out how to put my room on the shout out boards. Can you tell me how to? Thank you,

Abbey, 9

Michigan

Dear Abbey,

Any time you post a message to the "Shout Out!" boards, a girl can click on your name or Luna Tic, and it will take her straight to your room!

Dear Luna,

i haven't seen any of my questions in the Dear Luna or on the ask a girl and I really want answers. Please get this fixed!

Niamh, 12

Minnesota

Dear Niamh,

We've just posted all the newest "Dear Luna" and "Ask a Girl" questions and responses. Be sure to check them out!

Dear Luna,

What does "public View" mean when your in My Room?

Niamh, 12

Minnesota

Dear Niamh,

Hi Niamh, That means that anyone on the New Moon Girls site can see what you posted. Love, Luna

Dear Luna,

How many people subscribe to this magazine?

Niamh, 12

Minnesota

Dear Niamh,

About 20,000 girls subscribe to New Moon Girls magazine, with more girls joining our community all the time!

Dear Luna,

How many stickers can you have on your sticker page. How do you type a poem on moon girls.

Anastasia, 10

Minnesota

Dear Anastasia,

There's no limit to the number of stickers you can have on your stickers page! And to put a poem on New Moon Girls, simply log in, then go to "Your Stuff." Click on "Create Something New" and then select "write a poem." After you've typed your poem into the text box, you can choose to submit it to the Poetry page here at New Moon Girls. If you don't send it to the poetry page, girls can still read it when they visit your room and your stuff.

Dear Luna,

On other websites they have a way where u can ask people u meet to be friends w/ u online. and then u can go 2 ur list of friends and get 2 their pages quickly!

Marianna, 11

Ohio

Dear Marianna,

Hi Marianna, Thanks for your suggestion! We are always looking for ways to improve New Moon Girls. I'll think about your idea. Love, Luna

Dear Luna,

I'd like to make the point that it's okay to look pretty on the out side!I know it's not all about looking pretty but some times it's fun to dress up! I would also like to say to all the people who think new moon is a place to complain, that it's okay to just let it out! Some times I feel like like I can't tell any body my problems but wen i go to new moon I feel like I can say what ever I won't!I will never be teased in new moon about my problems

Isabel, 9

California

Dear Isabel,

Dear Isabel, When I hear girls like YOU say that New Moon is a safe place it makes me so happy! Thanks for sharing your thoughts about dressing up. I agree that sometimes it can be fun to try out new looks and to want to look special... as long as we keep in mind that real beauty comes from the inside :-) Love, Luna

Dear Luna,

I wrote a story that is about 250 words that I would like to submit to the magazine, but it is too short. Is there a way that I could submit it to the magazine? Thanks!

Alexa, 13

New York

Dear Alexa,

Hi Alexa, Why not post your story online? We do need certain rules for what we publish in the magazine, but if you post it online, girls will see it too! Love, Luna

Dear Luna,

On the message board, how do you reply to a specific comment? You know, so you have it in a grey box above your reply? Thanks!

JULIA, 13

Alabama

Dear JULIA,

When you hit "reply," you'll see the messages in the discussion below the text box for your response. Each message has a button that says "quote" at the top of it. Click the "quote" button for the message you want to reply to, and it will pop into your text box as a quote, so it will show up gray when you submit your post. Hope this helps!

Dear Luna,

Dear Luna, I was wondreing if you can post any pictures that you want in the art gallery. As long as they have to with you. Thanks!!!! -Syble

Sybil, 9

Alabama

Dear Sybil,

Dear Sybil, As long as the photos are personal ones and in good taste, sure! Love, Luna

Dear Luna,

i think that some girls are getting the idea that this magazine is to push boys down in to our situation and be the "top of the food chain" I think you should promote more of a EQUAL rights not a "i am better that you" enviornment.

Niamh, 12

Minnesota

Dear Niamh,

Dear Niamh, New Moon loves girls and we love boys too! We want all girls to feel free to express themselves here, because sometimes this is the safest place to do that. We do feel that boys are equal to girls but we also know that not all boys think girls are equal to them! Love, Luna

Dear Luna,

i was reading the part about body and feelings and i had a question. ya see i went to camp in July this summer and had my first period but i haven't had one since why do you think? P.S.i love new moon girls from, Maria

Maria, 11

Texas

Dear Maria,

Hello Maria, It's common dor girls just starting their period to be irregular. Some girls are irregular a lot even after they've been having their period for awhile! But it never hurts to talk to your mom or an adult you trust, because sometimes there can be a medical reason for not getting your period. And Luna wants you healthy! Love, Luna

Dear Luna,

i just joined a few weeks ago, and im not sure if im going to get my jan/feb issue. am i?

TigR, 10

Michigan

Dear TigR,

If you ordered your membership before December 30th, you will receive the January/February 2009 issue of New Moon Girls magazine. If you ordered late in the month, you may receive your Jan/Feb issue in the second mailing, which means it would arrive at the end of January instead of the beginning. But as long as you placed your order before December 30th, you should get it! (If you placed your order after December 30th, your first issue will be the March/April magazine).

Dear Luna,

How old is New Moon?

Hannah, 14

California

Dear Hannah,

Hello Heather, The New Moon magazine is 16! It was founded by Nancy Gruver and her twin daughters, Mavis Gruver and Nia Kelly. Nia and Mavis didn't have a good magazine to read that reflected who girls are inside and gave them a chance to talk about their dreams. New Moon has always had a Girls Editorial Board and the power and decision-making are shared between adults and girls. And the website just launched this fall :-). Love, Luna

Dear Luna,

Do you think it would be possible to let girls choose from the Luna Tics OR upload their own art? I dont mind the lunatics at all. But when I see someone with the same one, I feel funny. It would be fun to see other people's artwork, and our lunatics could be personalized.

Madison, 10

Idaho

Dear Madison,

Thanks for this suggestion! I can definitely understand why you want a completely unique avatar. I've added this to our list for possible changes to NewMoonGirls.com in the future. In the meantime, you CAN submit your own avatars by following the instructions here: http://www.newmoon.com/content/?id=1889&type=1. I can't wait to see your artwork!

Dear Luna,

what do i do when my 2 best friends dont like eachother and start to fight at my house

Natalie, 9

California

Dear Natalie,

Dear Natalie, It's hard when you're in the middle! Have you tried getting them to talk about what the problem is? I would do this when you're all together or you might end up in the middle which is not a fun place to be! You can ask them to be honest but nice. If it doesn't get better after awhile (sometimes it takes time to make changes), you might have to see them separately! If you like both of them, they're both wonderful people... and hopefully they will see this! Love, Luna

Dear Luna,

I have a couple things I wanted to tell you. First of all here is the letter that you couldn't find:luna, could you make it so that girls could have unlimmited charecters? Sometimes girls use crazy abreviations and it is really hard to read. And also I just got my copy of new moon magazine this after noon. i finished it a couple of minutes ago. maybe if you published more things that girls had written then it could be longer. One more thing, i typed in Womens Rights in the "Search" the other day it didn't come up with anything. i was suprised! thanks for listening!!! p.s. I loved this issue!!!!!!!

Nora, 11

Vermont

Dear Nora,

Hello Nora, Thanks for your suggestions! I don't think we can change to unlimited characters, but maybe you could encourage girls to send 2 emails? Many people like to use abbreviations even if they're not restricted in the length of what they write. I will talk to our editors about your search issue :-( About 80% of what is in the magazine is by girls. We don't have any plans to make the magazine l longer but we DO have plans to keep adding new content and features to the website! Let me know what you'd like to see, or see more of :-) Love, Luna

Dear Luna,

I have noticed that a lot of the girls writing in have complained about girls being unrealistically skinny. In the January/february 2009, Lilly wrote that a Violet from "The Incredibles" was underweight. I am in 7th grade and I am about the same size as Violet, but i am not underweight. I am what some girls consider unrealistically skinny. I think that is just as unfair as calling someone "fat". I do agree that the media has been showing too many thin girls. It needs to show some diversity, but that doesn't mean that being thin is a bad thing! I am not materialistic or dieting. In fact I get plenty to eat.i am strong and healthy. i am not "unrealistic". We need to accept all sizes. It not unrealistic to be what you are.

An-Li, 12

Oklahoma

Dear Luna,

Whenever I load the New Moon Girls homepage, the top half is fine, but the bottom half, like where it has the list of the features, is all messed up and illegible. It's not my computer, 'cause my laptop's new, and it's not the browser because I tried with a couple different ones. What should I do?

Laura, 12

Maine

Dear Laura,

Thanks for reporting this. If your computer has a slow connection, the delay in sending information may be messing up the bottom half of the page. To help us fix this bug, please send an email to feedback@newmoongirls.com and include 1) a detailed description of what's happening -- does the bottom half not show up at all? Does it show up with nonsense characters? Does it appear faded? etc.; 2) the name of each of the browser's you've noticed this on, including the version if you know it (i.e. - version 2.5, version 8.2, etc.). 3) If it's possible to take a screengrab of what's happening, please attach it to your email. Thanks!

Dear Luna,

I was looking at a picture, it didn't come up, and on that girls my stuff, and her other picture, didn't come up too. I can see pictures by other girls though!

Rebecca, 9

Camarthen

Dear Rebecca,

Sometimes a picture doesn't come up if it is still awaiting moderation (or waiting for an editor's approval), or if it's not the correct file type. Pictures that are .jpg or .gif files should upload just fine if they are under 10 MB. Please check back often to see if the girls' photos have been reuploaded -- and continue to report any glitches you think you've found to feedback@newmoongirls.com with a) a description of what happened and when and b) the name of the web browser you're using (internet explorer, firefox, etc.), including the version if you know it (3.0, 4.2, etc.).

Dear Luna,

HELP! I cant post pictures anymore! It says art work but does not show my picture! Help!!!

Lilly, 11

Minnesota

Dear Lilly,

Your artwork may be awaiting moderation, meaning that an adult editor hasn't approved it yet. Also, double check to make sure your artwork was either a .jpg or .gif file, as those are the file types that work best on New Moon Girls. Also make sure your photos are under 10 MB in size. If your photo still doesn't show up 24 hours after posting it and you're sure the file size and type were right, try uploading it again. We can't wait to see your pictures!

Dear Luna,

When is the next magazine comming out?

Genevieve, 11

Adelaide

Dear Genevieve,

You should be receiving your Jan/Feb 2009 issue within the next week!

Dear Luna,

i downloaded a picture on my stuff but it hasent shown up when i look fore it i see the tittle but under it is blank i dont know why?

Sonora, 12

Oregon

Dear Sonora,

There are a couple things that could have happened. 1) Your picture may be waiting moderation, meaning an adult editor has to approve it before it shows up; OR your picture may not have been approved because it was copyrighted to someone else; 2) your file type may not have been an accepted file type on NewMoonGirls.com -- double check to make sure all pictures you upload are .gif or .jpg files and that they are under 10 MB in size. If neither 1 nor 2 applied to your photo, try uploading it again. I hope you'll be sharing your photos on NewMoonGirls.com soon!
